Our Barnyard FriendsOur animal friends are an important part of camp. Caring for the animals allows campers to experience being needed--a new emotion for many. There are always new arrivals and greetings from old four legged friends. Campers experience the unconditional acceptance and joy of our animal friends.
Our barnyard friends have included a variety of animals over the years such as sheep, peacocks, chickens, goats, donkeys, bunnies, kittens, etc. We have also had the pleasure of enjoying horses, llamas and a pot-bellied pig, named Beans, at Anderson Woods Summer Camp. The campers enjoy small therapeutic interactions with the animals such as feeding, cuddling, and brushing. The campers, staff, and camp caretaker team up to ensure the animals are taken care of each day.

The barnyard is a wonderful place to watch the miracle of new life unfold. As we watch a new foal wobble in the pasture for the first time or a ewe with twin lambs, we see how delicate and beautiful we all are. Each camp season brings a new adventure with the animals. Caring for all creatures, great and small, teaches us the meaning of community.
