A Special Place For Special People |
WHY OUR GARDENS The gardens of Anderson Woods are grown using organic methods. They furnish nearly all of the vegetables and herbs needed for our summer camp and additional food for our homes. Campers supply the cooks with the daily harvest. From picking the beans to cooking the squash, all are nourished in body and spirit. The garden teaches all of us about caring for what we plant in life!
Our greenhouse extends the growing season and allows us to start seedlings in the spring. The garden is truly a community project. For many years our neighbors, the Prueher family, have provided annuals to brighten camp. They are always willing to give us vegetable plants from their greenhouse if we need them. We thank them for their many years of support. Their generosity and community spirit are wonderful examples of what camp strives to teach.
Gathering the harvest for lunch! One year we discovered purple beans! The campers can see them easier and enjoy watching them transform into green beans on the dinner table! The potato patch always reveals hidden treasures for the stew pot...unless you prefer to practice your juggling skills first!
Our Kitchen The kitchen is a special place at Anderson Woods. Our cooks serve the campers by preparing the food with love and care. We strive to let campers experience the bounty of the land. The menus are full of time-tested old favorites with room for creativity. Food nourishes our bodies and spirits...We thank those who have graced our kitchen and invite others to join us...
